Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
| No SqueezeRadio menu | Check the IndieRadio applet location and first Jive log error after a normal boot. |
| Connecting or reconnecting | Check the local helper, system clock, internet access and selected stream. The status API identifies the engine and most recent error. |
| HTTPS streams fail | Check /usr/sbin/squeeze-transport, /etc/ssl/squeezeradio-ca.pem, /var/log/squeezeradio-transport.log, and the loopback listener on 8875. Keep certificate checks enabled. |
| Helper starts manually but not at boot | Its startup call must precede foreground commands in rcS.local. Keep the owner's other startup configuration. |
| One station is silent | Try another station, check regional restrictions and volume. AAC streams must use the appropriate framing; the tested presets use ADTS. HLS and arbitrary playlist formats are not claimed supported. |
| Audio goes silent after about ten idle minutes | Earlier original-player builds did not update the firmware playback mode, allowing the speaker amplifier to sleep even while decoding continued. The current player reports its playback mode to firmware. Check /status → firmware: during playback, playMode should be play, with audioEndpoint set to Speaker unless headphones are connected. |
| Audio stops while the screen says Playing | The current player watches decoder progress and reconnects after more than 20 seconds without advancement. If it remains stuck, note the source revision and redacted /status decoder fields. There is no automatic stop timer. |
| Player stays RECONNECTING | The stream or connection is unavailable. After six unsuccessful retries, the player tries once a minute automatically. Check internet access or select another station; Stop cancels recovery. Older builds stopped retrying and showed OFFLINE. |
| Holding a preset gives no feedback | The current display shows “Preset N saved” and the station name for three seconds after a successful save. Older builds lacked this feedback. Check the source revision; do not reset the radio. |
| Save message appears but there is no sound | Check the radio’s sound-effects setting. The save banner is the confirmation when interface sounds are disabled. |
| My iPad favorites do not match the radio buttons | They belong to separate players. Assign favorites on the iPad and hardware presets on the radio separately. |
| I cannot find a song | Browse selects live stations. Individual-song search and on-demand playback are not included. |
| Artwork is missing | Metadata and a matching iTunes result are required. Missing artwork does not stop audio. |
| Weather unavailable | Check internet access and city coordinates. Saved results are marked as saved. |
| Remote says unauthorized | Check this radio's private pairing key without extra whitespace. Never post it in an issue. |
| Remote times out | Check trusted LAN access and the current IP before optional mDNS. Guest Wi-Fi may isolate devices. |
| Restarting Jive resets the box | Use a normal reboot; preserve the hardware watchdog. |
| iPad is silent during USB preview | Close QuickTime capture preview or unplug USB; the capture route can differ from the speaker route. |
For reports, include hardware, firmware, source revision, the failed action and a short redacted error. Exclude keys, Wi-Fi passwords and private backups. Public downloads remain paused during review.
The dashboard cannot remove Activation Lock or suppress Apple Account prompts. Never erase a working iPad as an app troubleshooting step.
