Playback components
Ownership and release status: this is a project-maintained application on third-party firmware and libraries. A complete source-provenance and commercial-use review has not passed. See the dated review and open issues.
The current development player does not load StandaloneRadio, HTTPSProxy or StandaloneTime. All three have been removed from the development device. SqueezeRadio handles station selection, retries, presets, ICY metadata, artwork fetching, the display and LAN control. Removing the old applets does not establish ownership of the whole software stack.
It still relies on third-party components with their own terms:
| Component | Purpose | Distribution |
|---|---|---|
| Installed Logitech Jive/SqueezePlay firmware | Audio decoder, display, buttons, networking and Lua runtime | Already on the radio; firmware is not bundled |
| OpenSSL 3.5.8 | TLS 1.2+ with CA and hostname verification | Apache-2.0; license accompanies a locally built helper |
| musl C runtime | ARMv5 static runtime | MIT and included third-party notices |
| Mozilla CA certificate data, extracted by curl | HTTPS trust roots | MPL-2.0; retain the bundle header, license and source reference |
| Optional mdnsd | Stable LAN hostname | BSD/ISC/MIT; see network notices |
The original C helper is built for ARMv5 soft-float with Zig 0.14.1. Runtime source, build and tests document the pinned build. It listens only on 127.0.0.1:8875. Stock audio decoding remains on the device; we do not claim to have written a codec or cryptographic library.
Clock and legacy components
A correct clock is required for HTTPS certificates. The test radio now uses an original SqueezeRadio startup service around the firmware’s existing msntp utility and RTC. StandaloneTime has been removed. The service synchronizes after networking starts and once daily, retrying failed requests later. The stock utility remains part of the installed firmware and is not bundled here.
Earlier versions depended on ssbrandsma's SBStandalone and SBHttpsProxy. They have been removed from the test radio after a recovery archive was verified and saved privately on the owner’s Mac. Historical repository versions contain copied HTTPSProxy Lua files; current source removes those files, but old history and release archives remain private while the provenance review continues.
See dependency notices and security. Public downloads remain paused. A full clean-radio installation and broader compatibility testing remain outstanding.
Services and content
Station discovery uses Radio Browser; audio comes from station servers; radio artwork comes from Apple’s iTunes Search API; hardware weather uses Open-Meteo. These are external services and content, not project-owned assets. The free Open-Meteo endpoint and iTunes artwork use have unresolved commercial-release requirements. See content and commercial-release checks. The separate iPad app has its own service integrations and has not received a complete rights review here.
Native development build 14 removes the LMS-community artwork lookup from the Squeezebox remote screen. It uses the cover URL supplied by the updated radio through the authenticated local API. This removes a community service lookup, not the underlying image-provider dependency or its usage conditions.
